Patricia de Melo Moreira , a Lisbon-based photographer for AFP, received the first prize of the Estacao Imagem de Coimbra festival in Portugal for her series of images depicting the deadliest wildfires in Portuguese history that killed more than 100 people in 2017.
Patricia, who received the prize last weekend, has covered fires over the past four years that have destroyed large areas of Portuguese forest. She describes her experiences in an article on AFP’s Correspondent blog.
