An Agence France-Presse investigation into the strike in southern Lebanon on October 13 that killed a Reuters journalist and injured several others, including two from AFP, points to a tank shell used only by the Israeli army in this high-tension border region.

Anne Guérin has been appointed as the new Managing Director of Agence France-Presse (AFP). She will take over the role from January next year, replacing Dalila Zein who held the position since 2018 and significantly contributed to the Agency’s financial recovery during her tenure.

Agence France-Presse (AFP) is launching a new online course in digital investigation and fact-checking designed to train journalists and journalism students to navigate the growing challenges of disinformation surrounding elections throughout the world.

AFP reiterates its unswerving support for its colleagues in Gaza working in the most difficult conditions imaginable, amid reports concerning certain photographs taken on October 7, the day of the Hamas attack against Israel.

An American site, HonestReporting, started the controversy on Thursday when it wrote that the presence of several Gaza-based photographers, who took photos for international media and who it said were on the scene particularly quickly, raised “ethical questions.”

AFP is calling for an in-depth and transparent investigation from Israel into the exact extent of its army’s involvement in the strike that seriously damaged its Gaza bureau.

Agence France-Presse has taken note of the recent statements from the Israeli army spokesman concerning “an army strike nearby (the AFP office) that might have caused debris.”

At this stage, this statement on its own does not explain the extent of the damage caused to the AFP bureau, located on the top floor of an 11-storey building.

AFP Chairman and CEO, Fabrice Fries, has strongly condemned the strike that severely damaged the Agency’s office in Gaza on Thursday, November 2nd.

In line with its mission to report the facts without passing judgement, AFP does not describe movements, groups, or individuals as terrorists unless it is in direct quotes or with attribution.

This is a long-standing policy at the agency and is in line with the editorial policies of other international news agencies and major media, such as the BBC.

It is a rule that applies to the agency's reporting in all coverage of politically motivated violence aimed at civilians.
