A Cycle of Violence - M23 in D.R. Congo

The east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has been wracked by conflict for nearly two decades. Rebel groups plague the region and have given rise to the world's largest (and most expensive) United Nations peacekeeping operation.
In April 2012, former members of the CNDP rebel group, who had been incorporated into the national army in 2009, defected to form M23 - yet another armed group in the country's restive east.
Some two million people have been displaced as a result of the conflict in recent years; the M23 rebellion alone has displaced around half a million.
