THE JOB
Agence France-Presse (AFP) news agency is looking for an English-speaking reporter and editor to be based in our regional hub in Warsaw to report on Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, the Caucasus and Central Asia. Candidates must speak Russian, be able to write excellent copy in English and have journalistic experience and knowledge of the region.
The reporter will be expected to cover breaking and spot news from across the region within a network that includes AFP’s Kyiv and Moscow Bureaus and regional hubs in the Caucasus and Central Asia. Reporters will also be expected to work on enterprise stories in conjunction with our teams on the ground. There will be reporting opportunities in the region.
The role may require long working days, dictated by the news agenda, and will include working some weekends and public holidays.
You should have a keen eye for the visual aspect of coverage and coordinate with the photo, video and graphics departments. All our journalists contribute to AFP’s newsgathering process in all formats, working for the common goal of producing high-quality multimedia journalism.
You will closely monitor social media and strictly adhere to the Agency's Guidelines on Social Media activity.
You will contribute to the fight against misinformation by alerting digital investigation journalists to potential posts for debunking. You are trained in digital verification, now indispensable for all journalism. Online training is available here.
You commit to respecting AFP's ethics charter as well as all the editorial guidelines in force and in the Agency's style guide.
You will work under the day-to-day supervision of the Warsaw Hub Bureau Chief and Warsaw Hub News Editor.
SKILLS REQUIRED
Experience in journalism
Excellent English writing skills
Good Russian
Team player
French and/or Ukrainian language skills are a plus
