AFP represented at the “Democracy Matters – Facts Matter” Conference in Brussels

The European Fact-Checking Standards Network (EFCSN), of which AFP is a co-founder and verified member, is co-organising the policy-focused conference "Democracy Matters – Facts Matter" with the European Parliament and the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO) in Brussels on 25-26 March 2025.

In these turbulent times for global politics, as information integrity and the role of facts in our democracies come under increasing pressure, the conference will bring together fact-checkers, journalists, and academics alongside representatives from EU institutions. The event aims to foster dialogue and engagement with key stakeholders in the fact-checking community.

Marie Bohner, Partnership and Development Manager at Digital Investigation, representing both AFP and the EFCSN, will join a panel discussion on perspectives for the new legislature and the implementation of the Digital Services Act (DSA) alongside MEP Roberts Zīle (ECR), Vice-President of the European Parliament and Member of the Bureau Working Group on Communication, and MEP Christel Schaldemose (S&D), Vice-President of the European Parliament and Chair of the Working Group on Digital Services Act Implementation.

The conference will also address topics such as the increasing harassment of journalists and fact-checkers, particularly in Georgia, Serbia, and Hungary; the role of fact-checkers in the proposed European Democracy Shield; and the latest AI tools and technological solutions being developed by journalism and fact-checking organisations.
