Anne Guérin has been appointed as the new Managing Director of Agence France-Presse (AFP). She will take over the role from January next year, replacing Dalila Zein who held the position since 2018 and significantly contributed to the Agency’s financial recovery during her tenure.

AFP reiterates its unswerving support for its colleagues in Gaza working in the most difficult conditions imaginable, amid reports concerning certain photographs taken on October 7, the day of the Hamas attack against Israel.


An American site, HonestReporting, started the controversy on Thursday when it wrote that the presence of several Gaza-based photographers, who took photos for international media and who it said were on the scene particularly quickly, raised “ethical questions.”

AFP is calling for an in-depth and transparent investigation from Israel into the exact extent of its army’s involvement in the strike that seriously damaged its Gaza bureau.


Agence France-Presse has taken note of the recent statements from the Israeli army spokesman concerning “an army strike nearby (the AFP office) that might have caused debris.”

Equipped with professional cameras and lens kits provided by Canon, a key partner in the initiative, each of the twenty participants paired up with a seasoned AFP photojournalist ahead of the Rugby World Cup.
