AFP is looking for a driven anglophone reporter for its Warsaw Bureau starting in January 2023. Candidates must speak fluent Polish and have some experience in journalism. French is helpful but not essential, as are other languages from the region such as Ukrainian, Belarusian or Russian.
Working together with another anglophone journalist and two francophone journalists, you will cover news, enterprise and feature stories from Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and the Baltic states of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia with the help of our network of stringers.
Your daily tasks will include reporting, writing, translating and editing, and travel for top stories in the region may be required. The role may also require long working days, dictated by the news agenda, and will include working some weekends and public holidays.
You should have a keen eye for the visual and multimedia aspect of coverage and coordinate with the photo, video and graphics departments. It is important to stress that all our journalists contribute to AFP’s newsgathering process in all formats, working for the common goal of reacting and high-quality multimedia journalism.
Use of social media and networking apps is essential, in accordance with the guidelines for using social networks as an AFP journalist. You are also encouraged to support the development of new formats, including close collaboration with AFP’s fact-checking journalists.
SKILLS REQUIRED
- Experience in journalism, preferably with a news agency
- Strong English writing skills
- Fluent/native in Polish
- Excellent news judgment and knowledge of current events
- Good knowledge of social media
- Ability to work calmly under pressure
