Agence France-Presse is seeking a digital verification journalist to report on disinformation circulating on social media in German.

The role is an exciting opportunity to join AFP’s growing team of 140 fact-checking journalists who have taken a leading role in the fight against disinformation across the globe.

The successful applicant will be required to write fact-check reports in German about disinformation in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. They will join the AFP newsroom in Berlin.

The role requires close monitoring of all social media platforms, precise writing and an interest in detailed online investigation. You need to be agile, resourceful and rigorous.

In an ever-changing media environment, the nature of the job could evolve in line with coverage demands and the requirements of an increasingly diverse client base.

SKILLS REQUIRED

We require an excellent level of writing in German. As our working language is English, a good level of written and spoken English is necessary.

The position requires the ability to easily navigate and explore major social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, and encrypted chat apps.

Experience as a journalist is needed, as well as the capacity to multi-task and adapt to developments.

Knowledge of digital verification techniques and tools is desirable but not essential as appropriate training will be provided.

While we work closely as a team, the role also requires a self-motivated and resourceful attitude toward tracking down and investigating harmful disinformation.
