Video Journalist for the Netherlands, The Hague

THE JOB

AFPTV is seeking a motivated Video Journalist for a full-time coordinator position in our Hague bureau starting on May 1st, 2025. 

You will shoot and edit news stories and features from the Netherlands, as well as coordinate our video coverage, manage and maintain our network of freelancers, and provide video training in the bureau where appropriate.

Reporting to AFPTV editors in London and The Hague bureau chief, you will be skilled at setting up, shooting, scripting, voicing, and editing news and feature packages, as well as delivering very high-quality b-roll edits. 

The role will involve travel across the Netherlands and occasionally elsewhere in Europe and the world depending on the agency’s needs.

You will be expected to generate exclusive story ideas and closely follow news from the Netherlands and the major global institutions based in the Hague, such as the International Court of Justice and International Criminal Court.

The role may also require writing text stories in English, so excellent writing skills are essential.

AFP’s office in The Hague is small and all staff members are expected to remain flexible in terms of working hours to cover the news. You will need to be available, when necessary, to work evenings and weekends and to travel, both in and outside the country.

You will have a good understanding of AFP client needs in the broadcast sector, as well as in the growing digital market. 

You will sending weekly and daily agendas on video coverage in the region, as well as maintain the video equipment in the bureau and request new materials where necessary. 

You should be familiar with using social media as a news-gathering tool. You will also be comfortable sourcing user generated content and applying AFP’s editorial guidelines concerning the use of UGC.

You will contribute to the fight against misinformation by helping factcheckers in the network and ensure you are trained in the various methods of online verification, now indispensable for all journalism. Online training is available here.

SKILLS REQUIRED

We are looking for someone with:

  • At least three years of experience filming and editing short-format hard news and news feature packages for broadcast or cable networks.

  • Speaking/writing fluent English and Dutch. French would be a major advantage. 

  • Excellent news judgment, knowledge of current events and strong editing skills.

  • Good shooting/editing skills, including live video.

  • Honed digital non-linear editing skills, preferably on Adobe Premiere.

  • Understanding of live feeds transmission.

  • Ability to coordinate a network of stringers.

  • Good knowledge of social media and the AFPTV authenticating process

  • Ability to work calmly under pressure and availability to work evenings and weekends when needed.

  • Driving license

 

THE OFFICE

The office consists of an anglophone bureau chief and three reporters (one anglophone and two francophone) who produce text and video. There is also a factchecker and administrative support based in Stockholm.

The job requires occasional duty shifts in the evenings and weekends. Once every three months, a reporter from the Hague is on duty for the whole Benelux region.
