Two AFP photographers win prizes at the Istanbul Photo Awards
Aris Messinis won first prize in the News Series category for his Desperate Journey series of images of migrant rescue operations by the Spanish NGO Proactiva Open Arms in the sea north of the Libyan coast.
His work has already received several prizes including third place in the Picture of the Year category in the News Picture Story, in Spot News and the public prize in Days Japan.
Aged 40, Aris Messinis is AFP’s head of photo in Greece based in Athens.

Ed Jones received second prize in the Portrait Series for his series Faces.
Aged 35, Ed Jones is photographer for North and South Korea based in Seoul His work was exhibited at the 2012 Visa pour l’Image.
