AFP successfully tests a new technology to verify the authenticity of its photos during the US elections

With the rise of generative AI and the growing use of synthetic images, Agence France-Presse (AFP) has successfully tested a “proof of concept” to certify the authenticity of its photos, ensuring they can be verified wherever they appear online. The Agency now plans to develop this technology further in collaboration with camera manufacturers, editing software developers, and news distributors, working towards a shared industry standard that protects the integrity of photojournalism.

Directed by Boris Tilquin and Christophe Hermans, the new documentary Merckx dedicated to cycling champion Eddy Merckx, will be presented on Friday 31 January 2025 as a world premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. This is a co-production of FACTSTORY, a subsidiary of AFP, in collaboration with the Belgian production companies Ka Visuel and Watertower in co-production with RTBF, ARTE G.E.I.E. and VRTT.

Agence France-Presse (AFP) has appointed Karl Malakunas, currently Asia-Pacific Deputy Editor-in-Chief, to lead its new Philanthropic Partnerships Initiative, starting on February 1. The initiative aims to raise funds and build relationships with philanthropic institutions, such as charitable foundations and non-profits, that support media projects aligned with AFP’s values and objectives.
