The Europe Prize rewards the photo of the earthquake in Turkey, which happened in February 2023. Adem Altan is also in the running for the global World Press, which will be announced on April 18th.

Photojournalism: The “Marai Photo Grant” is back, with the 2025 edition focused on raising awareness about climate change

After a three-year hiatus, the “Marai Photo Award” becomes the “Marai Photo Grant” in 2025. The award is organised by Agence France-Presse in honour of Shah Marai, former photo chief at AFP in Kabul. Shah Marai, who was an inspiration for Afghan photographers throughout his career, was killed in the line of duty at the age of 41 in a suicide attack on April 30, 2018 in Kabul.

AFP photographer Christina Assi carries the Olympic Flame in honour of journalists killed on duty

AFP photographer Christina Assi, who was severely injured on assignment last October in Lebanon, will carry the Olympic Flame on Sunday, 21 July, in Vincennes, France, "to pay tribute to those who have fallen" while doing their job as journalists, she explained.


Christina Assi, 29, was struck by a tank shell on October 13, 2023 while reporting on cross-border clashes between the Israeli army and armed groups in southern Lebanon, alongside six other colleagues.

Agence France-Presse (AFP) is set to open its first photography gallery on September 12, debuting with an exclusive exhibition highlighting the liberation of Paris, marking the 80th anniversary of the historic event.


The AFP Gallery, located at 9 Place de la Bourse within the news agency's headquarters, will offer free exhibitions three times a year, with the aim of delivering museum-quality events to the public.

Reuters journalist dead, AFP reporters among 6 wounded in south Lebanon

A Reuters journalist was killed Friday and six others from AFP, Reuters and Al Jazeera were wounded while working in southern Lebanon, the three news organisations said.


A group of journalists from different media outlets were near Alma al-Shaab close to the border with Israel when they were caught up in cross-border shelling, one of the two wounded AFP correspondents said.

A Lebanese security source had told AFP that initial Israeli shelling followed an infiltration attempt by a Palestinian faction from the Lebanese side of the border.

Thirteen organizations, including AFP, are collaborating within the CEDMO consortium to counter disinformation more effectively

The consortium is led by Charles University in Prague and the international multidisciplinary team includes AFP and Bellingcat.


CEDMO (Central European Digital Media Observatory) has been operating since 2021 with the help of fact checkers, social science and technology researchers, and investigative journalists to analyze and understand the impact of digital transformation on society.
